The home track for Merton Saints BMX club is built on a site owned by St Mark’s Academy in South London. To create a new identity for the club with meaningful connection, we referenced the historical winged lion symbol of St Mark, fusing wing feathers with the lion’s mane to create an icon comprising everything a racer wants to be - powerful, fearless and airborne.
The colours are based on historical variants of St Mark’s flag. Abstract brush strokes give the feeling of movement whilst also mimicking claw marks. The wordmark is based on historical Blackletter style but with a contemporary twist. The result is branding that reflects both the club’s origins and prowess on the track.
